After the lack of response to my last post, I’m closing this blog down. I’ll keep the TV Links page on my personal website updated with cycling links and you can contact me through that site too. Thanks for reading and I hope this site helped some people over the last few years.

Vuelta a Espana – and a Big Question

Filed under: Coverage,Eurosport,General Site Info,ITV,Live Events,Road racing — MJ Ray @ 01:52+00:00

Right, the Vuelta looks great for us Brits this year, with at least some coverage on itv4 (28e) every day – and it’s as good as ever for the rest of Europe on Eurosport Germany (19e). Once again, host broadcaster TVEi (13e) doesn’t seem to be covering it. Have you spotted it on other channels? Please, leave a comment below and let the web know.

Now a question for you: when I started this blog, listings were scattered across EPGs, teletext, hard-to-use websites and newspapers and so on. Now there are half-decent listing websites for most broadcasters and Federazione Ciclistica Italiana has a decent listings page which makes up for RAI’s website still being rubbish. Now I have less time (you probably noticed I didn’t comment on this year’s Volta a Portugal at all) and 95% of my postings are based on checking the same few listings, so should I continue with this blog? Do you still find it useful?

If I do pack up, I’ll post some links here and I’ll still mention races on identi.ca, twitter and so on, if you’d like to follow me there.

Tour de France 2011

So, it’s Co-operatives Fortnight in the UK, but the tour is underway! I’ll post more details a bit later, but from channel-hopping, the headline channels are: France 2 (5w), Eurosport (19e), itv4 (28e), RAI Tre and RAI Sport (13e).

Tour de Suisse

The Tour de Suisse is visible on live TV, but it’s not the comfortable Eurosport/RAI combo from the last couple of weeks.

No, for this race, you need to find the channel Sport1 (19e) from 18:45 Sat, 17:00 Sun, 16:30 Mon, Fri and next Sun, 17:30 Tue-Thu and 17:45 next Sat. As usual, all times CET.

There’s also some coverage on SFinfo (13e) from 16:00 Mon-Fri, but rather irritatingly missing both start and finish weekends. What’s the point of that?

SFinfo does have some highlights every day at some point during sportaktuell or sportpanorama, usually early morning, lunch and night, but I haven’t found exact times.

Have you seen the Tour de Suisse on other free satellite TV channels? Please leave a comment and let the world know.

Criterium du Dauphine

Sunday 5 June sees the start of the 2011 Criterium du Dauphine, one of the traditional warm-ups for the Tour de France, but who will be taking it easy and who will really be competing?

Watch it on free-to-air satellite TV on Eurosport (19e) from 14:13 Sunday, 15:30 Monday, Friday and next Sunday, 16:30 Tuesday and Wednesday, 16:00 Thursday and 16:15 Saturday, on host broadcaster France 3 (5w) from 13:25 Sunday, 16:10 Monday-Friday, 15:45 Saturday and next Sunday or on RAISport 2 (13e) from 13:00 Sunday, then 15:20 other days. All times CET.

Highlights are on Eurosport late evening and/or each morning, as well as RAISport 2 some time late evening. See links above for times.

Have you seen the Dauphine on other free TV channels? Anyone seen coverage for the Tour de Suisse besides SFinfo yet? Please leave a comment below.

Tour of California

The 2011 Amgen Tour of California starts today. Probably. If the snow lets it. Watch the 2011 Tour of California live coverage details page on the main site for updates.

As I mentioned in passing on the Giro d’Italia article, it’s being covered in itv4 (28e) at 22:00 BST each night by Real Peloton‘s Ned Boulting and Matt Rendell which really should be a great watch. Given their belief that they’d have a fantastic 3-minute commentary career, I assume the main commentary is coming from someone like Phil and Paul.

There was an on-screen graphic during the Giro today saying that Eurosport (19e) would have live coverage from 23:00 CET tonight, but that’s not reflected in the web listings just now (tabletennis, it says), which just show a highlights show before tomorrow’s Giro live coverage.

Have you spotted coverage on any other European Free-to-air Satellite TV channels? Please leave me a comment and let me know.

Giro d’Italia (and Dunkerque)

And here’s the first grand tour of 2011, the Giro d’Italia.

As for free-to-air Satellite TV, the Giro is on both RAI 3 and Sport 2 (13e) (thanks Bernie S), as well as Eurosport (19e).

In general, RAI seem to cover the whole thing (including build-up) on Sport 1 or 2 from the start of coverage, then on RAI Tre from 15.45 while Eurosport starts at some point between 14:15 (most days) and 15:45 (today, Saturday). Both have highlights most nights with repeats the following morning about 0915 on RAI Sport and 1000 on Eurosport.

I’m not seeing the Giro listed on any UK or French television (itv’s Ned Boulting tweeted that the Giro was “eye-wateringly expensive”), but as an added bonus, I have just spotted stage 5 of Les 4 jours de Dunkerque on Direct 8 (19e) at 1530 CET tomorrow (Sunday 8 May). I think it may be on France 3, but I didn’t work out if it’s on the free satellite version or only some regional ones.

Have you seen the Giro on other free TV channels? Please leave me a comment and let us know where.

Tour of Turkey 2011

John J wrote in that the Tour of Turkey starts Sun 24th on Eurosport (19e) and TRT3 (42e). There is live coverage every day in the week on Eurosport. I used to be able to see TRT3 at 7e – I can’t at the moment but that’s probably just my dish being slightly out of alignment.

The organiser’s site is tourofturkey.org and there’s more useful info about online coverage on cyclingfans.com.

Liege-Bastogne-Liege 2011

Liege-Bastogne-Liege 2011 is go! Here are the free TV coverage details which I’ve found so far:

RAI Sport 2 (13e) has coverage listed from 12:00 CET, which is unusually early, but the first show is something like “Eve of LBL” so live coverage might not be starting until 14:00. From 15:05 CET, it is also on RAI 3 (also 13e, so it doesn’t really add much). Highlights are on RAI Sport 2, 22:30-01:00 tonight.

Eurosport (19e) has coverage from 14:16 CET today and highlights 12:30-13:30 tomorrow.

France 3 (5w) has coverage from 15:20 CET today. Again, it seems a bit unusual to me for France 3 to be the latest start. Anyone know what’s going on in France Televisions?

Flèche Wallonne 2011

2011 Flèche Wallonne LIVE on the CyclingFans Main Site has details of online coverage, but what if you’d like to watch it on Free TV?

Cycling stalwart Eurosport (19e) has live coverage from 14:05 CET and highlights 23:00-00:15 tonight.

RaiSport2 (13e) rather cryptically says “14:00 Ciclismo classiche del nord” which I think is probably it and there’s highlights 23:20-00:20 (there’s also Giro del Trentino highlights too).

ASO’s usual home broadcaster France 3 (5w) has live coverage, but only from 15:00 CET, which seems a bit odd. Do they know something we don’t, or is Inspecteur Derrick really that good?

If you spot it on other free-to-air satellite tv channels, please leave a comment.
